She lives in Arotropis, with her partner Colchis and her children Hawthorne, Ivy, and Rowan.

Appearance

Hyacinth's scales are pale desaturated green. She has wide shoulders and large, muscular wings. Her snout is long and pointed, like a bird's beak, and her horns are ridged and curve upwards. Her eyes, wing membranes, horns, and talons are pale reddish-pink. She has two pink stripes on each of her legs. Small pink spikes run down her spine, ending with two larger spikes on her tail tip.

Personality

At her core, Hyacinth's spirit is restless. She's always yearning for something more, something bigger, something further. She's filled with seemingly endless energy, which sometimes borders on hotheadedness. She's extremely protective of those she cares about, but is prone to jealousy.

History

Hyacinth hatched on Spring 6, y2261 in the mountain tribe Petraga. She was the largest and strongest hatchling in her nest. From the time she was a few days old she proved herself to be a wild spirit, constantly itching to go new places and see new things and meet new creatures. Her mother found it quite exasperating trying to keep her under control.

In the spring of y2263, while attempting to escape her mother's watchful eye, Hyacinth stumbled into a cave she had never been to before, which turned out to be the home of Nevith and Akor. While the rest of the family was out of the cave that day, there was one dragon still in the cave, a wingless hatchling named Ladon. Oblivious to her mother's whispered horror, Hyacinth cheerfully introduced herself, marking the start of her closest friendship in Petraga.

She and Ladon grew up together, despite her wild enthusiasm and his reserved thoughtfulness making them as different from each other as they could be. Although he didn't talk much, she enjoyed listening to him; she encouraged his hopes and dreams, and defended him from the other members of the tribe who looked down upon him. She gave him the nickname Library Dragon, thanks to the books he so loved.

On a warm autumn day in y2282, Hyacinth woke up to discover that Ladon was nowhere to be found. Knowing he was a creature of habit, she was deeply concerned that something might have happened to him, and she began thoroughly searching the territory for him. She did eventually find him a few miles from the center of camp, and he explained that he had gotten lost the previous evening and spent the night in the mountains. Although she was initially concerned, she could tell how much more he was enjoying himself once he was free from the weight of the tribe's expectations, and so instead she carried him to the furthest edges of Petraga, as far as she could go. There, the two said their goodbyes, and Ladon set off into the unknown.

Hyacinth spent the next several years with the tribe, trying her hardest to be a good and loyal tribemate, but she still could not shake the restlessness that had been with her since she hatched. And so, in y2289, seven years after Ladon had left the tribe, Hyacinth did the same. She took off in the dead of night, flying away without a plan or a goodbye.

For the next few decades, Hyacinth wandered, finally indulging her need for adventure. But the Age of War was still ongoing, and although she had never been involved in the conflict, her status as a magical creature inherently showed her side. Thus, her options for exploration were limited, with natural-controlled areas of Ankou completely unbreachable for her.

In y2306, when she was approximately four decades old, Hyacinth returned to Petraga, itching to know how the tribe that had once been her home had fared in her absence.

Relationships

Colchis

Hyacinth met Colchis soon after she first arrived in Arotropis. He helped show her around the city, and the two soon became friends.

Ladon / The Library Dragon

Hyacinth met Ladon for the first time when she was a few years old, and she soon became his only friend. The two remained very close throughout their childhoods, as she was one of the only members of the tribe that didn't see him as a freak. She tended to be protective of him, as he was frequently picked on or outright ignored. Hyacinth is the one who nicknamed him The Library Dragon, a name which he later adopted as his own. She's the one who encouraged him to leave the tribe, even though it broke her heart to say goodbye to him. Although she did meet up with him again some time later at the Library, they'd both grown up quite a lot since they'd last seen each other, and they were never quite as close as they'd been in the tribe.

Freckles

Hyacinth and Freckles did not get along well when they first met. Although she knew it was petty, some part of Hyacinth felt that Freckles was around purely to replace her, and he was a reminder that she was no longer the most important one in Ladon's life - and likewise, Freckles felt that she was a threat to his friendship to The Library Dragon, like he was always going to be second-best to her. As time went on, the animosity faded and the two were left as almost, but not quite, friends.
