Kifo

He is Zeranta's partner, and fought with her on the magical side. He was killed during a battle, and resurrected in the Age of Harmony using the King's Crystal.

Appearance

Kifo is on the smaller side for a mountain dragon. His scales are dark gray, with black patterns. Post-resurrection, his head and neck are fully skeletal; he can speak, but cannot move his face at all, leaving him with a permanent blank expression.

Personality

Kifo is easy-going by nature, but his personality was deeply affected by growing up during the War. Although he chose to fight and was eager to join the war, he was never inherently violent; he joined the magical army to defend magical creatures and put an end to the war, and he holds no ill-will towards natural creatures. Around Zeranta, Kifo is playful and teasing, often bantering with her.

Post-resurrection, he becomes much more reserved. Other creatures react with uncertainty or fear at his appearance, and he has trouble connecting with anyone but Zeranta.

History

Early Life

Kifo was hatched in the beginning of Summer, y2230, during the Age of War. He was a member of a small mountain tribe, just east of Moto Peak. In y2259, he and his best friend Zeranta left their tribes to enlist in the magical army; for the first few years, they were mainly helping the war effort, and only occasionally engaging in small skirmishes. Around this time, they became partners.

First Death

After making their way to a magical stronghold in y2275, Kifo and Zeranta were able to actually fight, like they had wanted to. They battled side by side, defending each other and working as a single unit. During one battle in y2281, the pair became separated in the chaos. Kifo found himself fighting a larger opponent, a polar bear named Nuni. Despite his best efforts, he was a much weaker fighter without Zeranta by his side, and he was killed - one swipe of Nuni's claws, reinforced with iron, severed his neck at the base.

Resurrection

Kifo found himself in Eternity, with an overwhelming sense of peace and little memory of his time alive. He had no sense of the time passing, until at some point he began to become aware of a falling feeling. He was pulled downwards relentlessly, being drawn faster and faster, until all at once everything stopped, and he was conscious.

He woke up in a forest in y2857, disoriented and confused, nearly six hundred years after he had died. Zeranta was standing in front of him, and while it took some time for all of his memories to return, he recognized her right away. He soon learned that she had used the King's Crystal to resurrect him. Although he was alive once again, his appearance had changed dramatically; his body was healthy, but everything above the base of his neck - where his fatal wound had been dealt - was only skeletal.

He and Zeranta spent the next hundred years together, finding a secluded place and just being able to be with each other without the pressures and horrors of war. They were able to live the life they had wanted, without war or danger, simply with each other.

Years Alone

Zeranta passed away on Winter 4, y2962. Heartbroken, Kifo remained in seclusion for some time before rejoining the outside world. Other creatures were often intimidated by him, and he found it hard to connect with them without the ability of facial expression.

Second Death

After over one thousand years since he had been resurrected, Kifo sought out the Gryphon Mother, in hopes that she would be able to end his suffering and allow him to return to Eternity to be with Zeranta again. He found her in the wilderness, and gave her his request. Gently, she took Kifo in her talons, cradling him against her chest, and used her magic to peacefully end his life.

Once again, Kifo found himself in Eternity. He found Zeranta, and although neither of them could fully recall their time in the living world, they were able to recognize the bond between them, and thus they stayed together.

Relationships

Zeranta

Zeranta is Kifo's long-time best friend and eventually partner. They lived and fought side-by-side until Kifo's death, and then Zeranta spent decades trying to and eventually succeeding in bringing him back. While he was initially startled and slightly dismayed by the sudden jolt from Eternity, as well as his new appearance, he was happy to be reunited with Zeranta.

Sage

Kifo encountered Sage and the rest of the Adventurers in y2857 when he was resurrected. They had been fighting to prevent Zeranta from using the King's Crystal, believing that she was going to use it nefariously. After his resurrection, the Adventurers left. He met them a few other times during his life, and grew to consider Sage a friend.

The Gryphon Mother

At the end of his life, Kifo sought out the Gryphon Mother, knowing that her powers were limitless. She cared for him in the way she cared about all her creatures, and she granted his request and gave him a peaceful end.
