They are characterized by being a hybrid of feline and avian characteristics. There are four main categories for Ankouvian gryphons.

• Common/Forest Gryphons
• Arctic Gryphons
• Birdcat Gryphon
• Gryffs

All gryphon species except gryffs are able to naturally produce offspring with each other regardless of species.
