She is the mother of Storm, Puddle, and Freckles, and she was formerly Jiro's partner.

Appearance

Raine is average size for a cat. She has long legs and a long tail. Her fur is white, with a large patch of dark gray running along her back and head, and darker gray speckles around her whole body. Her eyes, nose, and ears are light gray.

Personality

Raine is stern and steadfast, and refuses to change her mind once she's made it up. She sticks to the traditions and customs that she was taught by her parents. She hates magic deeply, seeing it as a threat to the safety of her and her family.

History

Raine was born on Summer 79, y2589, to a large family on the northern end of the Commonlands.

In the beginning of y2600, she met Jiro, and found herself captivated by him. The two fell in love. On Spring 12, y2601, she gave birth to their three children. She was shocked to discover that the youngest was born with a pair of feathery wings sprouting from his shoulders, a clear sign of magic. She confronted Jiro, who casually told her that he had magical heritage. This news felt like a betrayal of the highest kind to Raine, who deeply loathed magic of all kinds. She was also horrified by the way Jiro didn't seem to care, observing the winged kitten with mild interest and nothing more.

When the kittens were a few days old, Raine took all three of them with her and left the home she had shared with Jiro. She never saw him again. She travelled south, to the heart of the Mother's City, seeking a new place to raise her offspring. The two natural kittens she named Storm and Puddle, but she hesitated on the third kitten. She loved him deeply, as she did the other two, but she could not bring herself to raise a clearly magical offspring, as it went against everything she stood for. So, on the evening of Spring 51, y2601, during a thunderstorm, Raine brought the kitten to a large and warm-looking building, leaving him on the doorstep. She hoped someone would find him and care for him, but when she left, she did not look back.

Relationships

Jiro

Raine's relationship with Jiro lasted just over a year, from the day she first met him to the day she left him.

Freckles

Raine has not seen Freckles since the day she left him on the doorstep of the Library, at only a few weeks old. Approximately ten years after she left him, she heard rumors of a winged cat living in the Library, and she felt a sudden desire to find out who her son had become. She was able to speak to the Library Dragon, who informed Freckles that his mother had come looking for him, but Freckles chose not to see her. Raine does not regret her decision to leave him there, although she wishes she had never had to.
