She led the siege on Lyndoreth, and was eventually killed by Ignis. Her actions are responsible for the destruction of the Frost Jewel.

Appearance

Nix's fur and feathers are all a pure, blinding white. Her eyes are ice-blue, and her talons and beak are pale gray. She has a wide wingspan and a long tail, and her body is wiry and angular.

Personality

Nix's sole focus is revenge for the murder of her parents. She is vindictive, temperamental, and easily angered. She refuses to let anyone see her weaknesses. She is arrogant and haughty, but not prideful – she truly believes that she is doing what's best for her kingdom, and for her parents' legacy.

History

Early Life

Nix hatched from her egg on Winter 14, y903, in the heart of the palace of Thelaji. She spent her early years under the watchful eye of her guardian Skania. She greatly admired her parents, Aubin and Kaithe, but could rarely spend much time with them as they were busy running the kingdom. They frequently left Thelaji to take care of business on the southern coast of the continent, but Nix never knew what they were doing there. She was scrappy and clever, constantly getting herself into trouble.

In y910, when Nix was seven years old, her parents allowed her to travel with them to the coast, where they were working on expanding their empire. They had already taken control of all the territories around Thelaji, merging them together, and now they sought to extend it further across the entire continent. Aubin showed her the secret to their success – the Frost Jewel, a Crystal that had been passed down through the Thelaji royal family for generations. When worn close to the chest, it allowed the user to take control of frost and ice, which Nix's parents used to persuade any creatures that resisted the idea of their perfect empire. Fascinated, Nix begged to be a part of the conquest, but her parents told her she was still too young. So she continued to watch from the sidelines, learning about battle strategies, magic, and power.

Parents' Deaths

In y914, after a series of unsucessful negotiations, Aubin and Kaithe launched an outright attack on several southern kingdoms, including Lyndoreth, Tayutho, and Leye. Nix was allowed to travel with them, although once again she was forbidden from participating directly. She accompanied them to a meeting with the leaders of the tribes of Lyndoreth to give them one final chance to surrender, although Skania kept her far away from the action. When it became clear that Lyndoreth would not submit, the king and queen called down their army.

However, Lyndoreth had an unexpected protector, the fire dragon Ignis, who came to defend the kingdom after hearing of the Thelaji leaders' attempts at conquest. The ensuing battle lasted the better part of the week. Skania tried to escort Nix far away, keeping her out of any danger, but within a few days Nix had squirmed her way out of her guardian's watchful eye and took off towards the conflict, determined to help her parents. When she arrived at the center of the battle, in the northern part of the kingdom of Leye, she found the land ravaged by fire and ice. Dozens of Thelaji gryphons lay dead around her.

In the sky above her she could see her parents in flight, locked in battle with the massive Ignis. Aubin had the Frost Jewel tied around his neck and he was using its power to send blasts of ice at the dragon, freezing his wings and scales, while Kaithe darted in-and-out, landing blows on Ignis where she could. Nix wanted to help, but facing a real battle, she found herself paralyzed by fear. She could only watch as Ignis shrugged off her parents' attacks, melting the ice, and as he launched a stream of fire that knocked Aubin out of the sky. She could only watch as Kaithe dove to grab the Frost Jewel from the king's neck, using it to launch another attack at Ignis, but was struck down as well. She could only watch as her parents fell from the sky, and as they hit the ground.

Nix ran over to where they had fallen, but it was too late for her to do anything. Ignis was already flying away, the Frost Jewel clutched in his talons. Staring up at his retreating figure, while the flames crackled around her and the bodies of her parents, Nix swore she would take revenge.

The New Queen

Nix, now age eleven, immediately took control of Thelaji's army. She ordered her surviving soldiers to leave Leye and all the other kingdoms they were occupying, and to return to Thelaji to regroup. Once they had returned to their homeland, she asserted her birthright and appointed herself Queen Nix.

Some of her creatures, particularly the kingdom's elders, questioned if she was old enough to be queen, and suggested putting an advisor on the throne until Nix was ready, but she shot down all of these suggestions, refusing to relinquish even a fraction of her power now that she was queen. She exiled several creatures who continued to question her, a show of strength intended to strike fear into her subjects. Queen Nix was not one to be questioned or trifled with. Her word was law. It did not take long before the creatures of Thelaji understood that thoroughly.

She spent the next two decades rebuilding Thelaji's army, trying to make a kingdom that was even more powerful than it had been in during her parents' time. All the while, she was working on a plan to take revenge on Ignis.

Relationships

Apophis

Apophis is Nix's partner. He is the only other creature that Nix cares about, although she rarely shows it. He is also the leader of her army.

Parhelia

Parhelia is Apophis and Nix's only child. She was born so that Nix would have an heir in the event that something happened to her, so that Thelaji's legacy would live on. Any attachment Nix feels towards her is functional, rather than personal.

Basille

Basille is Apophis's brother, and he serves as an assistant to Nix. Nix does not like him, but keeps him around for his usefulness and his relation to Apophis.
