The Library

The Library is a building in the Usiku district of the Mother's City. It was founded by The Library Dragon in y2350, with the intention of creating a center for creatures to share in his love of books.

It began as a simple wooden building, but as the years passed it was expanded multiple times, to the point where the Library Dragon could no longer keep up with it on his own; he hired a phoenix to cast magic upon the building using himself as a power source, keeping things neat and clean and letting the books organize themselves. Over the years as the magic grew stronger, the high level of magic in the building led to a low-level sentience, causing the building to rearrange itself and guide its occupants as it saw fit. Eventually it grew powerful enough to prevent anyone but the Library Dragon, and later eventually his companion Freckles, from entering the building.

It was home to the pair until their deaths in y2992; it then lay abandoned for just over a century. Though other creatures had tried to enter the building and explore the abandoned halls, the doors remained firmly shut and the structure unyielding, even as the plants and trees grew up around it. No amount of brute force could disassemble the building, and so it was largely left alone until Briar rediscovered in y3131 and revitalized the collection. Though the magic was no longer as strong as it had been in the Library Dragon’s era, some remnant remained, in addition to the Library becoming the connecting point for the souls of The Library Dragon and Freckles themselves.
