Kyruk

Kyruk is a Flightless mountain dragon living in Aevis during the Age of Kingdoms. She played a large role in the Flightless Uprising.

Appearance

Kyruk has a small, lithe body, with iridescent warm gray scales. Her eyes are vivid amber. She has a long neck and a thin, whip-like tail. Her horns and spine ridge are pale brown in color. Her face, haunches, and shoulders are scattered with darker scales, and her underbelly is dark gray. She has heavily damaged wings due to injuries that occurred during the Third and Final Test shortly after her hatching, and is incapable of flight. What remains of her tattered wing membranes is pale gray in color.

Personality

Kyruk is guarded and reserved, slow to trust.

History

Kyruk hatched from her egg on Autumn 52, y1210. Like all members of the Aevis mountain dragon, she hatched alone, in the rocky riverbed of a stream leading to Lake Onyx. She was able to make her way back to her tribe's camp, passing the First Test, and then to climb out of the Aevis canyon, passing the Second Test, which allowed her temporarily shelter in the tribe.

When she was a half-season old, on Winter 1, it was time for her to take the Third and Final Test, along with the rest of the season's hatchlings. As she was perched on the edge of the cliff face, one of the other hatchlings behind her bumbled into her, sending her tumbling down before she was ready. Panicked and floundering as she plummeted, she was not able to get her wings in place in time before hitting the water's surface.

She awoke on the rocky shores of Onyx Island, being cared for by an elderly mountain dragon covered in scars, with small, twisted wings. She discovered that her own wings had been broken in multiple places, the thin membrane shredded to bits. She realized she was now a Flightless, and that she had failed to become a member of her tribe. What she had not realized, however, is that many of the Flightless had survived their own Tests and had built a civilization of their own, hidden on Onyx Island.
