History
[born in silverwood, child of his tribe's leader, becomes leader very young and then eventually is elected chief of the united tribes. sees the beast enter the forest and loses many of his soldiers over the following year.]
Leikur was born on Winter 42, y2295, in the middle of one of the worst blizzards that the Silverwood Forest had ever seen, the only child of his tribe's chief. He was born sickly and small, and his parents believed he would likely not survive the season, and so very little care was provided to him. He surprised the rest of the tribe by not only making it through the remainder of the storm, but overcoming his birth illness and growing rapidly over the next several seasons.
[becomes chief, is attacked by the beast over and over]
In the beginning of y2312, Leikur decided enough was enough, and gathered his remaining soldiers for one last offensive to drive out the Beast taking over their land. This time, he elected to lead the charge himself, and on Spring 25, he and his tribemates re-entered the heart of the forest and came face to face with the Beast. Leikur was momentarily frozen in shock, as his tribemates' reports and his own distant glimpses were not enough to prepare him for the enormity and ferocity of the creature before him. Nonetheless, he continued onward, charging toward the beast with head lowered in an attempt to drive his sharpened horn into her heart. However, the Beast was far quicker than he had anticipated, and before he was even aware of her moving, she had snatched him up in her massive jaws and thrown him clear across the forest, knocking him unconscious.
When he awoke, he found himself in the makeshift shelters his tribe had been staying in, on the outskirts of the forest. His once-precious horn had snapped in two, leaving only jagged shards, and his right front leg had been severed just below his shoulder. His second-in-command explained that she had called for a retreat after witnessing his injury, bowing in shame and expecting to be punished for her cowardice. Leikur considered this for a moment and then relented, realizing wearily that this was not a fight they would win, having lost enough of their tribe already. Reluctantly, he addressed his remaining tribemates with a plan to vacate the Silverwood Forest and set off into the greater Ankouvian continent in search of a new home.
Once sufficiently recovered enough to travel, Leikur led his tribe out of Silverwood, heading north through Aevis and along the eastern coast of Lake Onyx. They came across many small settlements along their travels, full of creatures celebrating the new era following the end of the Age of War. Though many of the creatures were surprised to see the unicorns after so many centuries of the species isolating themselves, they were nonetheless very welcoming, which Leikur found suspicious and off-putting. However, many members of his tribe were drawn in by the other creatures' kindness, and many choose to stay in the lands they pass through, leaving the tribe's population to dwindle the further they travel. Stubborn and determined, Leikur cursed the name of those who left and pressed onward, making slow progress through the mountains of Zethuri and Kunal as more and more of his tribe was breaking off and remaining behind.
He eventually found himself and his remaining loyal tribemates, now barely more than a dozen in number, in the frozen isolation of northern Caetia. Looking around at the barren wilderness, and at his small number of companions, the reality of the situation finally sank in for him, and he realized that his tribe and his life as he knew it was truly gone. He told the other unicorns of his plans to build a new home for the remainder of them, but stated he would not fault any more of them for choosing to find their own new home. Several others did eventually travel off on their own, leaving but nine creatures with him, and they set to work settling their new home over the course of the next several seasons.
